The authority is entrusted with a comprehensive array of responsibilities and rights in disaster management. These include the implementation of approved plans and decisions, serving as a central resource hub, conducting studies on various disasters and their causes, and offering financial and technical support to provincial and local levels. They facilitate involvement from non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and local communities, coordinating and enhancing their disaster management activities. The authority focuses on forming and enhancing the capacity of search and rescue teams across different administrative levels to ensure effective response during crises. Moreover, they coordinate rescue efforts during disasters, mobilizing resources like security agencies, search and rescue groups, and volunteer organizations like the Nepal Red Cross Society and Nepal Scouts. They also manage international aid, maintain records, and operate information systems for disaster management. Additionally, the authority plays a crucial role in public awareness campaigns, research for risk reduction technologies, and providing psychosocial support to affected individuals. They monitor the performance of government agencies in disaster management and undertake any other tasks specified in this regard.
